For the February 2020 issue of Maclean's magazine, Deidre wrote a ‘Before You Go’ letter to her mother, part of a collection of unique, heartfelt letters from Canadians taking the time to say “Thanks, I love you” to special people in their lives.
Titled "Dear Mama," Deidre's letter recounts the fearless support and devotion of a woman who did everything to protect her child from a monster.
“On countless nights, I cried. I cried for you and all the little girls who had their agency stolen from them. You pursued justice during a time when criminal charges for sexual assault were scarce. Justice did not prevail, but you did, and I love you for it.”
